Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has acknowledged that one of the club's summer acquisitions may face an early exit from Chelsea in January.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall transferred to the Blues from Leicester City for a fee of £30 million in July, reuniting with his former manager Maresca. Despite this, he has yet to make a start in the Premier League, having played only 55 minutes in the top division. His playing time has primarily been in the Europa Conference League, where he has recorded two goals and one assist across six appearances. The second of these goals was scored during Thursday's 5-1 victory against Shamrock Rovers at Stamford Bridge. In his post-match comments, Maresca was unable to guarantee that Dewsbury-Hall would remain with the club for the latter part of the season. "I am not concentrating on January; all I can say about Kiernan is that we are very pleased with his work and performance, and that is my perspective on him," he stated. He further remarked,
"We do not wish for any of our players to depart, but sometimes the issue lies with them. If they express dissatisfaction and a desire for more playing time, we cannot simply insist they stay against their will. It is a matter of mutual agreement between the club and the player. What I can affirm is that we are satisfied with Kiernan, and we will see how things unfold." Dewsbury-Hall currently finds himself behind Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez in the club's midfield hierarchy.
